Preview Links for Shopify Stores

1. Overview

Preview Links for Shopify Stores ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that helps you save and manage Shopify theme preview links per store. This Privacy Policy explains what data is handled by the Extension, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

This Extension is an independent developer tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way connected to Shopify Inc.

2. Data We Collect and Store

All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. Nothing is ever sent to any server.

The Extension stores the following data:

• Website hostnames — The domain name of websites you visit that are identified as Shopify storefronts (e.g. example.com). These are stored solely to remember which Shopify store handle belongs to which custom domain.
• Shopify store handles — The identifier of a Shopify store (e.g. mystore), either extracted from Shopify URLs automatically or manually entered by you.
• Theme preview link names — Display labels you choose for saved links (e.g. "Dawn Theme").
• Theme preview URLs — The preview URLs you manually paste and save into the Extension.

3. How Data Is Collected

Data is collected in three ways:

• Automatic URL parsing — When you open the extension popup, it reads the URL of your active tab to identify whether you are on a Shopify Admin page or a *.myshopify.com domain. No browsing history is recorded.
• Content script detection — A content script runs on every page you visit. It reads the text content of inline <script> tags in the page to look for a Shopify.shop variable. This is necessary because Shopify stores can be on any custom domain and there is no other way to identify them. If Shopify.shop is found, only the hostname and store handle are saved locally. The content of the page is never stored or transmitted.
• Manual user input — Theme names and preview URLs that you explicitly type or paste into the extension popup.

4. How Data Is Used

All stored data is used exclusively to provide the extension's core functionality:

• Matching your current browser tab to a Shopify store so the correct saved links are displayed.
• Allowing you to copy, open, or delete your saved preview links.

Data is never used for analytics, advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond directly serving the extension's functionality.

5. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, rent, or transfer any data to any third party, ever. All data remains on your local device and is never transmitted over the network.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Data is retained in your browser's local storage until you delete it. You can delete all stored data at any time by:

• Using Chrome's extension management page: chrome://extensions → click Details on Preview Links for Shopify Stores → Clear site data
• Uninstalling the Extension, which will remove all associated storage

7. Permissions Justification

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:

• storage — Required to save and retrieve your preview links, store handles, and domain mappings locally in your browser.
• tabs — Required to read the URL of your currently active tab in order to identify which Shopify store you are browsing and display the correct saved links in the popup.
• windows — Required to open a saved preview link in a new browser window when you click the "Open in new window" button.

No other permissions are requested. The content script match pattern (http://*/*, https://*/*) is broad because Shopify stores can be hosted on any custom domain. The script only acts when a Shopify.shop value is found; otherwise it exits immediately without recording anything.

8. Children's Privacy

This Extension is intended for web developers and Shopify merchants. It is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

If this Privacy Policy changes, the updated version will be published at this same URL with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Extension after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
